The identity is two fold, involving a logotype for the film society as an organization itself and a separate identity for the film festival. Both combine here within a stationery system that includes letterhead, envelopes, business cards and a mailing label.
The bay area public is probably first introduced to the film festival with posters, newspaper advertisements, and an abridged version of the program guide which is inserted into several regional newspapers. The festival identity is announcement oriented and is intended to reflect the visual layout of “playbills” used historically by the entertainment industry to tout events in an introductory manner.
Outdoor executions extend the film festival identity and play a large role in creating awareness of the event as it draws near. Here bus shelters and cards, illuminated commuter transit kiosks, and street banners blitz San Francisco before and during the film festival event.
