IDENTITY
Identity for the Fontainebleau Hotel, the legendary Miami Beach mid-century landmark built in 1954 and designed by Morris Lapidus. The hotel was built by hotelier Ben Novak on the former site of the Firestone Estate. The newly formed Fontainebleau Resorts purchased the complex in 2006 and rebuilt it over a two year period taking special care to preserve many of the original design elements including the famous “staircase to nowhere”. The extraordinary redevelopment of the hotel is complete and its new condominium tower have since re-opened in November 2008.
A monogram was developed in conjunction with the Arnell Group bringing back the glamour heritage the property has inherently enjoyed since its inception. The “FB” symbol carries forward the contemporary aspects of the sweeping curvilinear mid-century architecture inspired by the greatest mass media entertainment of that time, the movies.
In addition to the Fontainebleau identity system, which included logo / monogram, color palette, typography and signage, I was also enlisted to redesign the website along with collateral.
